UMaine Investigator Maginnis Comments on Enterovirus Case

November 13, 2014 · Kris Reaman

INBRE Investigator and UMaine assistant professor Melissa Maginnis was quoted in the Portland Press Herald regarding the first case of Enterovirus 68 in the state of Maine. Read the full article.

In related news, one of Maginnis’ undergraduate microbiology students conducting research in her lab – Adam Simard (UMaine ’15) – was recently awarded a Center for Undergraduate Research (CUGR) Fellowship for 2014-4015 to support his project: JCPyV Internalization: Insight Into Scaffolding Proteins and Associated Intracellular Binding Domains of Serotonin 5-HT2 Receptors.

The CUGR fellowships were developed to enhance and increase undergraduate student involvement in faculty supervised research, and are supported through a PRE-VUE grant awarded by the President’s Office at the University of Maine. Each fellowship provides a $1000 award for the student to help cover costs of the project.

Maine INBRE is funded by an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health.
